Behind the VFX of Fall 2: Deadpoint with Televisual

Televisual goes behind the scenes of Koala FX’s VFX work on Fall 2: Deadpoint.

We’re excited to see Koala FX’s work on Fall 2: Deadpoint featured by Televisual, with a new VFX breakdown taking a closer look at how our team brought the film’s vertigo-inducing world to life.

‍

Led by VFX Supervisor Menelaos Pampoukidis, Koala FX delivered over 400 VFX shots for the film, including the full actualisation of Mount Kwan — the environment at the centre of the story. Our team built the mountain as a CG asset and composited every shot in which it appears, combining digital matte painting and 2.5D set extensions to create one continuous environment across changing weather, lighting and story conditions.

‍

The feature also dives into some of the project’s biggest challenges, from the fully CG Devil’s Elbow establishing shot to the rain sequence, where changing practical light across the plates had to be carefully balanced with the CG environment.

As Menelaos tells Televisual, the challenge wasn’t simply building a believable mountain, but making the audience feel its scale and danger:

‍

“We had to look down,” says Menelaos, the team’s own twist on the film’s tagline, Are You Down? “The goal was never just to build a mountain, it was to make people scared of heights. If the audience isn’t feeling the vertigo, we haven’t done our job.”

‍

A huge thank you to Televisual for featuring our work and giving us the opportunity to share a little more of what went into Fall 2: Deadpoint.
