The role:
Be part of an agile team creating work that makes an impact. You will work closely with the VFX Supervisor, filmmakers, and Heads of Department to establish and deliver the final look of the film.
As Compositing Supervisor, you will lead the final look and develop compositing solutions across the project. You will remain hands-on, working in Nuke and other necessary software to develop technical solutions and workflows that maintain the expected look and quality of the film.
You will mentor and guide the team, monitor shots and deliveries, and help solve complex creative and technical challenges. You will also explore new and often unconventional methods, researching and implementing the latest AI-driven solutions, including depth and relighting, smart mattes, Wan 2.5 Animate, and Gaussian splatting.
You will be expected to develop and publish procedural, modular tools and workflows that can be used and built upon by other artists.
What you’ll do
- Composite complex and hero shots in Nuke, or other necessary software, through to final.
- Match live-action plates across lighting, perspective, grain, lens characteristics, and timing.
- Apply clean plate, restoration, paint, and roto techniques where required.
- Build robust Nuke templates, gizmos, and tools for reuse across sequences.
- Work with Supervisors to plan bids, schedules, and reviews.
- Monitor shot quality and consistency across sequences.
- Mentor artists and provide clear technical and creative guidance.
Future-thinking & hands-on
- Use ML and automation in compositing where it adds value, including Nuke CopyCat, smart roto, and ComfyUI-based depth and relighting workflows.
- Develop procedural and modular scripts, tools, and gizmos that other artists can easily adopt and reuse.
- Research and evaluate emerging tools and techniques, including depth estimation, matte generation, denoising, and upscaling.
- Build one-change-many-shots workflows that improve consistency, flexibility, and efficiency across sequences.
What you bring:
- Strong Nuke skills and a reel that demonstrates high-quality, invisible compositing work.
- A solid understanding of technical compositing fundamentals, including keying, projections, relighting, deep compositing, and image integration.
- A strong understanding of the underlying workings of nodes, tools, and workflows required to achieve the intended visual result.
- The ability to accurately translate creative notes into technical execution.
- Strong colour-management knowledge, including ACES/OCIO, IDT/ODT workflows, show LUTs, and plate parity.
- A strong editorial sense and understanding of editorial principles.
- Experience with AI video tools, machine-learning workflows, or dataset preparation.
- Calm, clear communication and well-structured notes.
Nice to have:
- On-set awareness, including HDRI capture, lens grids, witness cameras, and basic survey.
- Scripting: Python / TCL.
- Experience mentoring artists or leading small shot teams.
